Nike Soccer Ad from 1996 Good Vs Evil

This is a Nike soccer Ad from 1996, in the USA it ran with Joe Max moore, Jorge Campos, Ronaldo, Figo, Eric Cantona, Rui Costa, Paolo Maldini, Patrick Kluivert, Edger Davids and Ian Wright. This is a classic, I think you will enjoy this one.

Philadelphia Union announce Head Coach

The newest franchise in Major League Soccer are set to reveal their new coach tomorrow. Prost Amerika is reporting that the Union will hold a press conference tomorrow to announce current U.S. Assistant Coach Peter Nowak as their first Head Coach. What are your thoughts? Glad to see him gone from the National Team picture? Will Philly be successful on and off the pitch? Who do you think will be their first signing and DP? Sound off!

European Champions

Nike dropped this video onto YouTube right after Barcelona were crowned European Champions. Makes me wonder what they had in the can for United.

A night for history. No matter who won today, tonight would be historic. They way it ended had Pep Guardiola becoming the sixth player in history to win the Champions League as both a player and coach. Barca also became the first Spanish team to accomplish the Treble winning their league, cup and Europe. Had ManU won, they would have become the first team to repeat as European Champions. It was definitely a special night 10 years after Manchester United won their first Treble.

This says it all.

Barcelona showed exactly why they have dominated every aspect of their Spanish Primera campaign. Goals from Samuel Eto'o (10) and Lionel Messi (70) broke Manchester United hearts as they stripped away any hopes of a back to back Champions League title. What do you think of the game? Was it absolute brilliance of Barcelona or was it a United side that failed to show up to the game? Was the absence of Fletcher felt? Was this Sir Alex's best 11? Questions I will be asking for a long time, as the performance by the Red Devils was the poorest I have seen in a long time. Any team that show's up for a final against Barcelona and play's the way Man U did will always get this result. Bravo, Barcelona... Back to the drawing board Manchester.

Happy Champions League Final Day

I would like to wish everyone a happy UEFA Champions League Final Day. Once a year my old college teammates will actually take time off of work to sit down and catch the game with me over lunch.
We here at Sterlinho are Manchester United Supporters, but we didn't recently jump on the bandwagon like all of Chelsea's American supporters. I became a fan of ManU when European Football was just starting to make its way on to TV sets in the USA. I'll never forget Allen Hansen's famous line, "you'll never win anything with kids" when ManU lost to Aston Villa on the opening day of the 95-96 season. There was a sense of satisfaction watching "the kids" who were close to my age, like Giggs, Becks, Scholes and the Neville brothers win the Premier League Title. So I've been a United fan ever since. We've had our ups and downs along the way like any other relationship, but its been good the last few years. So I can't hold it against Sir Alex that we no longer have my favorites from the Treble winning team in '99 like Becks, Yorke and Cole. Besides I could watch Ronaldo all day long.
So happy Champions League Final Day and enjoy the match.

Summoning the OG's... Original Gangsta's

First it was the Sebastien Le Toux's 2 goal, 2 assist performance against Real Salt Lake, which made me think back to a not so distant USL past, then tonight it was more of the same... The old school Sounders delivered another classic US Open Cup victory. A long throw from Sanna Nyassi (USL-1 OG) found the head of Roger Levesque (USL-1 OG) who back flicked it across the goal, to find Kevin Forrest (USL-1 OG) connecting on a diving header. Forrest's goal in the 62nd minute was all they needed to hold off a last gasp effort by Colorado defender Michael Holody. Finding space at the top of the box, Holody blasted a shot that forced Kasey Keller to make 1 of 4 saves on the night, thus ending any comeback. This makes 2yrs in a row where Colorado has failed to make the tournament and the last time they met the Sounders in the USOC, they lost 5-0. Seattle has only missed the tournament twice (1998, 2004) and last year they became the first USL First Division team to advance to the semifinals in two consecutive seasons. Sounders FC and D.C. United, join automatic qualifiers Columbus Crew, New England Revolution, Houston Dynamo, Kansas City Wizards, Chicago Fire and Chivas USA in the third round of the Open Cup, with those matches set to be played June 30. How about Kevin Forrest scoring on his debut? Should the Sounders play more of their USL-1 guys? How far will they get? Do you think Gary Smith had a strong starting 11 for Colorado?

US OPEN CUP.

Seattle Sounders vs Colorado Rapids. Frustrating you can't catch the game on the telly, maybe this is something they can work on for next year. I know the demand means more in Europe when it comes to domestic cups, but from what I've been told no coverage is bad coverage. PUT THE GAME ON THE TV! Oh well... Here's a link to the Sounders website for the live audio feed. Enjoy!http://www.soundersfc.com/Matchday/Matches/2009/Season/US-Open-Cup-Rapids.aspx

Allow Myself to Introduce...Myself

Wa'sup everybody?! I'm DJ Salvo and I'll be dropping the fat beats to make ya move your feet. It's a Tuesday after a nice long weekend and I need a pick me up. Beatboxing always makes me smile.
You can basically skip 30 seconds into the video. Word up!

MLS Goals of the Week (Week 10)

I'm not sure how a couple goals from the Sounders-Rapids game got nominated...but hey, appeal to the fan base I guess. This should be a two horse race between Lopez and Guevara. Enjoy!

COD: Modern Warfare 2

I'll admit that I'm not the best 1st person shooter gamer in the world, but I'm pumped for Call of Duty's Modern Warfare 2. I never really got into the World War II versions of the games, but I loved COD 4: Modern Warfare! I can't wait for November 11th. Check out the new trailer below.

And it looks like we're headed to the favelas of Brasil. Sterlinho is now at home.

Memorial Day Peer Pressure

I had a positive response to my previous post, "Summer is here...and so are the Guidos" so here is the result for one guy who tried to roll with the guidos this weekend. I've never used self tanner, but what I know of it from the movie, Clueless, I do recall that you need to use moisturizer. Somebody probably should have told the guys in the pictures above.
Also, the dude's mom should have also added "not to use self tanner if everybody else does" to her "jumping off the bridge" speech. Oh well, guidos never learn.

Rangers Win SPL

Rangers Football Club are the Scottish Premier League Champions, for the first time since 2005 by downing Dundee United 3-0 at Tannadice. Goals by Kyle Lafferty (6'), Pedro Mendes (45') and Kris Boyd (52') gave the Ibrox club their 52nd title that was decided on the last day of the season. This was also Rangers first win at Tennadice in 3 yrs. What do you think of the win? Was this a great comeback by the Gers after being 7pts down to Celtic?

Note:
American Maurice Edu played the entire 90min.
DaMarcus Beasley didn't make the bench.

San Jose at Houston

Hey Ty! Now it's my turn. I used to play indoor soccer with Craig Waibel at the Arena Sports in Seattle. He's a good player.

LA Galaxy at FC Dallas

This game has special meaning to me since Landycakes is the captain of my fantasy team.

Toronto FC vs. New England

Highlights from the Revs trip north of the border to the plastic pitch. I hear that DeRo loves playing on it.

15 Steps

I use to want to be Thom Yorke. Ladies and Gentleman... Radiohead.

Zak Attack

Can Steve Zakuani spearhead the attack for the Sounders? With no Brad Evans, no Zach Scott, and no Freddie Ljungberg, Seattle may rely on the speed and attacking prowess of their rookie winger. With a Colorado team that has yet to be beaten at home and looking to exploit Seattle's gaps due to key injuries, this may not be the night Sigi's boys try to ride the Z Train. What do you guys think? Can Z work the Rapids as he did against Dallas? Will it all be for nothing if his supporting cast can't finish? Or does this have all the ingredients of another frustrating tie MLS fans have been forced to choke down. If you ask me, Seattle looks to be underdogs in this one.

Summer is Here...and so are the Guidos

People, places, cultures and seasons are all funny things...but there is nothing else like "The Summer Season" in the Hamptons. The Summer Season officially kicks off today with all kinds of demographics (but mainly guidos) heading out to the east end of Long Island. Whether you get their by car, train, helicopter, private plane or ride the Jitney, you're bound to run into the same kind of wanna-be dudes frontin' like they belong and that they're God's gift to women and the world.

Having lived in Southampton, I feel like I have the credentials to judge and make fun of the huge influx of people that make the east end their summer party mecca. But words cannot tell you the type of atrocities that I have seen on the island. And since a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll let them do the talking. Enjoy, and welcome Summer!

Wow! Wasn't that awesome? 40 seconds of that guy dancing...
BY HIMSELF!

And in the next video, it always amazes me that even women put on beer goggles. Have some respect for yourself!

Is it just me, or does that guy need to wax ASAP?

And in this final video, I love that the chick stops dancing as soon as the guido tries to get up on her. You go girl!

Boy I miss the Hamptons...

"I used to play with that guy. He's a good player."

This goes out to my buddy Ty. He may have mentioned the fact the he's played indoor with Zach Scott from Sounders FC. Ty's mentioned to me that Zach's a good player. So here is Zach scoring the winning PK against the Kansas City Wizards for the USL Sounders in the 2008 US Open Cup.

Sounders FC vs FC Dallas Preview (The Dirty South Perspective)

The Sounders will face off against the worst team in MLS this Saturday to try and get back to their winning ways. Hear what Seattle native and UW product George John has to say about facing his hometown team. Also included in the video is FCD Head Coach Schellas Hyndman's take on what it will take to beat the Sounders.

Yeah, nothing groundbreaking there...so I'll leave you with some hip hop from Dallas based emcee, Sivion, it's worth the listen.

A Look back at FC Dallas

For those of you old schoolers, you will remember the Sounders' opponents this week as the team formerly know as the Dallas Burn. Who can forget the awesome fire breathing horse with lightning legs logo that Dallas rocked back in the day? If I were an FCD fan, I might be asking the front office to bring back the Burn days complete with Jason Kreis, Brian Haynes, Mark Dodd, Alain Sutter, Leonel Alvarez and Hugo Sanchez; not offering me Drew Cary replica glasses. Who knows, maybe another re-branding might help FC Dallas to put some people in the seats at Pizza Hut Park? Or maybe they should just move back to the Cotton Bowl.

So with that, I leave you with a high point in Dallas' footy history...Highlights from the 1997 US Open Cup Final against DC United.

P.S. - I have the short sleeve version of the jersey that United was wearing. So if you want it, make me an offer that I can't refuse and you can have the shirt off my clothes rack.
